Short CV

Objective

Providing an open-oriented knowledge based platform to integrate conventional and non-conventional models and tools, processing scales and physical properties of biorenewables.

Current Status

Reviewing existing model and data integration framework with a focus on the most commonly used, and referred to, the CAPE-OPEN framework and formulating respective concepts in a domain ontology that facilitates input-output matching building upon the CAPE-OPEN framework by replacing their middleware with a more flexible semantic repository have been undertaken.

Future 6-months Plan

The future work will focus on the matching parameters related to the domain of process system engineering, with emphasis placed on the role of physical properties and unit operation.

Secondments

Planned secondment:

a.       NTUA in November 2015
b.       DTU in August 2016
c.       CIMV in November 2016

Project title : Open-oriented knowledge based platform to integrate conventional and non-conventional models and tools, processing scales and physical properties of bio-renewables. Work packages : : WP1, WP6. Supervisor name: Dr Franjo Cecelja, University of Surrey or someone with the same level of expertise and /or experience.

Objectives:

  • Investigate requirements for non-conventional models for bio-reaction and bio-reaction components, value chain and LCA (developed in T1.1, T2.3, T3.2 and T4.3) as well as the commercially available and relevant modelling tools/platforms
  • Investigate possibilities and develop concept of model integration for specific and most commonly used scenarios which will account for scale, format and value range requirements and differences
  • Collect and systemise physical data relevant to bio-refining, to include material properties, mass and energy balances and economies, and to investigate needs and usefulness for process modelling
  • To develop a knowledge model (ontology) in the domain of bio-refining which will i) incorporate explicit and tacit knowledge in the domain of bio-fuel modelling/production relevant to model integration and ii) enable integration of models identified in 1
  • Verify the knowledge model in 4 and respective model integration using case study defined by the RENESENG project.
Tasks and methodology:
  • Task 1: Summarise commercially available modelling platforms
  • Task 2: Define common scenarios in bio-refining process synthesis; Develop concept of model integration based on the requirements in Task 1; Verify concept using selected and simplified scenarios as a case-study verification and using readily available computer-aided multiscale modelling tools ; Define requirement for tacit knowledge to support flexible and purpose driven model integration
  • Task 3: Develop knowledge model in the domain of bio-refining model integration
  • Task 4: Model integration validation: Specification of measure of performance; Selection of scenarios; Experimentation and comparison with experimental data of individual models and as a whole.
Results: Deliverable 1: Requirements for model integration ? report ; Deliverable 2: Concept of model integration ? report + PhD transfer report ; Deliverable 3: Knowledge model (ontology) in the domain of bio-refining and wiki platform software package ; Deliverable 4: Tool for model integration ? software tool/ internet service or portal ; Deliverable 5: Dissertation
Dissemination: Year 1: 1 conference presentation on the concept of model integration ; Year 2: 1 conference presentation on knowledge model + 1 journal paper; Year 3: 1 conference presentation on model integration and wiki portal + 1 journal paper + dissertation
Planned secondment:
  • Secondment 1: NTUA (3 months) Integration of different model scales (unit to system)
  • Secondment 2: DTU (3 months) Integration of material properties data and models
  • Secondment 3: CIMV (3 months) Model validation with real-life data and in real-life environment
